Scoring systems established during the past funding periods to assess histomorphological changes in animal models and humans will be developed further and systematically used. We will complement this analysis with the in situ detection of functionally defined T cell and macrophage subtypes. In addition it will be expanded to the detection of antigen specificity of T cells involved in the inflammation as well as the functionality of the mucosal barrier with a special focus on antigen translocation. Future developments in this central project will be adapted to meet the requirements of the cooperating projects within the consortium.
