Parasitic Gastrointestinal Infections

Referent: Toni Aebischer

Gastrointestinal infections by parasites are a cause of considerable morbidity all over the world. In this lecture students will be presented with an overview over these parasites, the diseases associated with the respective infections, their diagnosis, treatment and, if available, prophylaxis. Through the introduction of exemplary life and infection cycles of certain parasites, the broader and public health context of these infections will be explored. Furthermore, based on selected examples characteristic aspects of the immunobiology of these infections with emphasis on mucosal immunology will be discussed.
